To celebrate all the engagements happening in our community this year, we have a little promotion called The Jewelry Center’s Couple of the Month! Each month we award one lucky engaged couple with a date-night on the town and a piece about them on our blog! Our April 2018 Couple of the Month is Aaron and Monica! Here’s a look at our interview with this wonderful couple!
HOW DID THE TWO OF YOU MEET?
Aaron: We were both members at St. Mary’s Parish in Hales Corners, and one of my best friends lived across the street from Monica growing up. Monica was planning to go on a mission trip to South Dakota and ended up convincing my friend to join, who then convinced me to come along.
Monica: I had gone the year before and had a great time, so I wanted to go again.
Aaron: My friend didn’t really want to go unless I came too, so he ended up convincing me.
Monica: And here we are nine years later!
Monica: That’s kind of a running joke, because we don’t actually remember our first date. It’s been such a long time – he says he thinks it was Olive Garden, but I’m not quite sure. But that is the earliest one we remember.
TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL
Aaron: We were planning a trip to Hawaii, so I knew that would be a good opportunity to propose.
Monica: We visited Oahu first. He kind of let me take the reins on what to do, since he didn’t want to give away the fact that he was planning to propose. So while I was researching places to go, I found a “Do Not Miss This Sunrise” article that was in the area we wanted to check out. So we decide to drive there the next morning – definitely did not pay enough attention to where we were going and we ended up driving to the opposite side of the island.
Aaron: Yes, we ended up on the Western side of the island, so not exactly the perfect place to watch the sunrise with the light coming up from the other direction…
Monica: He was actually planning on proposing that morning until we messed up our directions. So we decided to go to the correct beach the next morning for the sunrise, and that is where he asked me.
WAS IT A SURPRISE?
Monica: Yes it was definitely a surprise. I thought it maybe could happen in Hawaii, but I didn’t want to build up any excitement. Aaron actually waited until the third day to propose, so he kept me guessing!
AND THE RING? HOW DID YOU TWO DECIDE ON ONE?
Monica: I had some designs picked out that I liked, and Aaron had my favorite one custom made here at The Jewelry Center. It was really nice that he was able to bring in a picture on his phone, and you guys knew exactly what to do.
Aaron: We were able to get the perfect design for what she was looking for. So thank you!
Monica: Dean gave Aaron some nice insight into the design too that we would have never thought of with just the picture. And I absolutely love how it turned out.
Aaron: She had sent me the pictures of what ring designs she liked, so no subtleties there. But since it’s an investment and she’ll be wearing it everyday, I was glad she showed me exactly what she wanted.
HOW ARE THE WEDDING PLANS COMING ALONG?
Monica: Great! We’ll be getting married on October 5th, 2019 at St. Mary’s – it’s how we met so it will be nice to come full circle. And then the reception will be at Black Swan in the Third Ward.
Aaron: And those two things are basically the only things we have planned so far. So still a bit more work to do!
EXCITING! ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD TO YOUR STORY AS OUR COUPLE OF THE MONTH?
Monica: For future couples that are planning to get engaged – even though you know it’s probably going to come, it was a lot of fun letting the moment still be a surprise.
Aaron: Agreed, it was great. Also thanks so much for choosing us. We’re looking forward to our date night!
We had a great time talking with Aaron and Monica and learning about the two of them. We at The Jewelry Center wish the two of you nothing but the best in your wedding planning and the next chapter of your lives together!
